Maxi Cosi & Safety 1st Infant Car Seat Voluntary Recall

Dorel Juvenile Group, Inc. in the U.S.A. (DJ USA) has decided all USA models of Maxi-Cosi Coral XP, Mico XP, Mico XP Max, and Mico Luxe+ and Safety 1st onBoard 35 SecureTech rear facing infant car seats and Maxi-Cosi Infant Car Seat Base with self-retracting lower anchor systems fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 213 “Child Restraint Systems”.   

 

Maxi-Cosi Coral XP: 

 

For owners of Maxi-Cosi Coral XP as well as Travel Systems containing Coral XP, you may continue to safely use your inner carrier when attached to the outer carrier and the outer carrier is installed with or without the base using the vehicle belt restraint system, consistent with the existing instruction booklet and labels. A free replacement car seat will be sent directly to you when it is available or if preferred, we will provide a full refund of your original purchase price.  Please see further details below regarding model numbers impacted as well as how to register for a replacement car seat or refund. 

 

Maxi-Cosi Mico XP, Mico XP Max, Mico Luxe+, Safety 1st Onboard 35 SecureTech: 

For owners of Maxi-Cosi Mico XP, Mico XP Max, Mico Luxe+ and Safety 1st Onboard 35 SecureTech car seats/bases you may continue to safely use your car seat with the base when secured using the vehicle belt restraint system, or with shell only installation secured using the vehicle belt restraint system, consistent with the existing instruction booklet and labels.  A free replacement base will be sent directly to you when it becomes available.  Please see further details below regarding model numbers impacted as well as how to register for a replacement base.

    Shipments were also made to other countries.  Those companies are being notified and are working with local experts and respective regulatory agencies to determine actions.

  3. Does this recall involve any Infant Seats sold in Europe including the U.K?
     
    No, as the design is different for the lower anchors. The design complies and is certified to Europe standards.   
     
  4. Does this recall involve all Maxi Cosi and Safety 1st Infant Seats? 
     
    No. This only affects certain infant car seats with self-retracting latch systems in their base as noted above. 
      
  5. Can I still safely use my Coral XP Infant Seat and Base until my replacement car seat arrives? 
     
    Yes, you may continue to safely use your inner carrier when attached to the outer carrier and the outer carrier is installed, with or without the base, using the vehicle belt restraint system, consistent with the existing instruction booklet and lables until your replacement car seat arrives.  See our installation videos on YouTube:  Maxi Cosi Models   
      
  6. Can I still safely use my non-Coral XP Infant Seat and Base until my replacement base arrives?

  7. How will I be notified with updates regarding the recall or replacements?
     
    If you have registered your car seat and have an affected model, you will receive a notification letter via mail, or e-mail.

  9. What do I do with my recalled car seat once my replacement car seat or base arrives? 
     

    For Coral XP owners, once your replacement car seat arrives or you receive your refund, please cut the anchor webs and harness off the old base & carrier shell (if you haven’t already done so), then properly dispose of the entire Coral XP including the base, outer shell and inner shell.
     
    For non-Coral XP owners, once your replacement base arrives, please cut the anchor webs off the old base (if you haven’t already done so) and properly dispose of the old base.  You may continue to use the infant carrier outside the vehicle in all modes of use. 

       
  10. When will the updated base or replacement car seat be available? 
     
    We will be sending updates regarding availability so please ensure you have registered following the instructions above including your email address. We are taking measures to accelerate the availability of the replacement base.
