Congratulations! You’ve made it to the most dreaded part of owning and using a humidifier: cleaning it. While you could join the ranks of people who would throw the whole thing away rather than figure out how to clean it, we’ve got high hopes for you. You’ve made it this far, so let’s assume you’re in a cleaning mood – and we’re here to help.
How to Keep Your Humidifier Running Smoothly
Before we get into the nitty-gritty details, here are a few tips to keep your humidifier running smoothly.
- Never use water left sitting in the tank for an extended period unless it is continuously sanitized, as it is in our Stay Clean Humidifier.
- If the humidifier tank isn’t being continuously sanitized, plan to clean it about every three days.
- Always deep clean & sanitize your humidifier before and after storing for the off-season.
Humidifier Cleaning Steps
1. Unplug the humidifier and disassemble. Empty the tank of any remaining water.
2. Use a cloth or paper towel soaked in undistilled white vinegar to remove any scale build-up on the base.
3. Pour white vinegar into the tank and let it soak for at least 30 minutes, swishing occasionally to reach all crevices.
4. Pour out the vinegar and gently clean the inside of the tank with a sponge. Wipe the exterior of the tank with a vinegar-soaked cloth or paper towel.
5. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any mineral or vinegar build-up. 6. Let all parts dry and reassemble. You’re good to go!
